Compromise is one of the enemy's most dangerous tactics; it commonly destroys individual Christians, churches, and Christian organizations. He speaks slander to anyone who will listen. But "this kind does not come out" except by watching and praying, and putting on the whole armor of God.
Paul told Timothy that he should consider himself a soldier for Christ. They tried to frighten him with gossip, which could have led to the king of Persia's wrath. This may seem cynical, but it is true. Many times in seeking to defend our own reputation, we will find ourselves drawn away from focusing on God and the work of God.
