10/5/2005 9:21:27 PM. One mighty pull and it fired off and we held our breath for 9 miles (or however far) until we got back to the boat ramp. One person received a call about his boat - the good news was that his boat was still securely attached to his dock but the bad news was that his boat AND HIS DOCK had just washed up on goat island! Same could happen with goats. The balls are seemingly there to alert low flying aircraft or high mast sail boats of the power lines but are just an alert icon on another map of High Rock Lake. Must be open and cannot be walled or enclosed; however, a portion of one exterior side may be walled for the placement/construction of an approved storage area. The last two herds were shot at night.

6/25/2008 11:06:13 AM. I know they are the authority on Corps of Engineer controlled lakes. Saw an article about a local "goat fund" to feed and care for the goats on Goat Island in Lake Magazine's "Lake Weekend" paper yesterday. We were last there with Eeyore on Labor Day.
I thank God for him, and for a special trip to goat island with him a while back. I hate to see the shoreline trashed but that may be just an accident. It's a problem of nature that was setup by man. My dogs do keep them away from our place; although they have zippo chance of catching one. Around their a-frame shelter is a good landmark. My daughter loves those goats!
Didn't see them Saturday but they were all gathered in one spot near some folks parked on the bank Sunday afternoon. 4 summers ago a "nameless" person put another herd of goats on the island and a donkey in hopes to keep stray dogs off the island when the water is down in the winter and chasing them in the water. The lake's name is derived from neighboring "High Rock Mountain, " the tallest mountain in the Uwharrie Mountains. I know there was at least one incident years ago where goats were shot.
