I definitely want to go and read some of Pagan's other books now because I enjoyed this one so much.
I am excited to read more from Pagan soon. Reviewer: Annie Horsky McDonnell. I couldn't wait to crack open my copy and let the good times roll so to speak! Because when the the authors weaves a story of a man leaving his fiancee to go on a trip to France mere months before their wedding to "find himself" and asks her to not contact him AND I CAN SMILE NEARLY THE ENTIRE is great writing. There's a mystery about her, and Annie isn't sure what is going on. This is in the midst of them planning a wedding. This Won't End Well - with all of its humor and heart - was a joy to read. See my full review here. I received an advance copy of this book. Annie's life is about to implode (which is fitting since she's a chemist) but so not fun when it's her life instead of an experiment. Annie Mercer recently lost her job as a chemist because she was not getting along with her boss who repeatedly made unwanted advances. Annie is an appealing character and we root for her as she really tries to solve the confusion of her feelings and think about the direction of her life. On the same day, her fiance Jon, calls her from the airport to mention he is going to France without her for a month, to think his life through. Rolls eyes* On A sidenote, why is it that women in stories always need to lose their job and their man before they can figure out what they really want out of life? Such is true for This Won't End Well. She thinks she's fine. Annie is having a bad month - she is engaged to Jon, who has just left unexpectedly to "find himself" in France, she was forced to resign her job when her boss sexually harassed her, and she is now taking house cleaning jobs while living with her mother. Definitely recommended for anyone searching for their place in life and wanting to discover themselves all over again. SPOILERS for The Favorite Daughter by Kaira Rouda.
That's when a new neighbor moves in. I love that Pagan manages to make books that have so many layers but are so readable. "This Won't End Well" by Camille Pagan is about perseverance and not letting short term failures dictate your future. Overall I had so much fun. Soon Annie has let not one but two new people into her life. CW: sexual harassment, domestic abuse, hoarding, depression, death of a loved one, mass shootings, ptsd. Finally, I can only say that this book has touched me deeply, because I couldn't help feeling related to Annie's idea of avoiding people and trying to run away from her emotions. I loved how every woman in this book was juggling things, figuring out life at all stages, and there were several components of mental health. Do not miss this one! And she has a job -- but she quits after her boss makes a move on her. Good fences make good neighbors, or do they? Samantha was in her class at school, collected Littlest Pet Shops, and could rattle off the names and evolutions of three hundred Pokémon, ergo they were... But after her fiance, Jon, asks for space while he's gallivanting around Paris, Annie decides she needs space too-from when Harper moves in next door, Annie can't help but train a watchful eye on the glamorous but fragile young woman.
Where to begin with all the things I LOVED about this book? The second is Mo, a private investigator working on an unspecified case in the neighborhood. I think this makes it a huge plus for readers, and I know you will be able to find things to relate to as well! This is truly a feel good story about a woman who finds her voice and learns to follow her heart and find strength in the decisions she would make to improve her life for the better. The super-introverted Annie Mercer is the sweetest straight man and her new neighbor Harper is exactly what Annie needs to get her life started up again after the all too relatable double whammy of heartache and harassment. This great author didn't disappoint me! Epistolary novels are my jam, and this one was extremely effective in its delivery. I admit I smiled to myself about one of the minor storylines regarding hand sanitiser, particularly in these times of coronavirus! I enjoyed this story from start to finish as we follow Annie's life which is in a bit of upheaval.
