In terms of writing and worldbuilding it was amazing for a stand alone high fantasy novel but there are so many series or books I have read that do what Shannon did 100x better so it only gets a 3. She Who Became The Sun (SWBTS), by Shelley Parker-Chan is the first in a duology and is not out yet but it does publish next month! 'Shannon satisfyingly fills this massive standalone epic fantasy with court intrigue, travel through dangerous lands, fantastical religions, blood, love, and rhetoric' – Publishers Weekly. My heart aches for her at times because I believe she is doing her best and when things go wrong, she deeply feels she deserves it.
