Which do you like better? My Father's World ramps up the student's work as they get older. Since beginning MFW life is good. My avid readers can still devour books, but I don't have to be doing all of the reading. Hands-on math rather than workbooks for K & 1st.
Sonlight's main selling point is it's literature based and each package includes ALL the books your children will read for the year. After using MFW for 8 years and counting, I'm not yet convinced that it lacks meat, or depth. We also love doing crafts and hands on stuff, and it sounds like there is considerably less of that with SL. After 1st grade (or 2nd depending on ages of kids), you start a family cycle you do Bible, History, Geography, and Science together as a family, then split for more individualized age-appropriate learning in Math and Language Arts. The hands on learning and DVD of MUS are great for my visual and kinesthetic learners. I do like that it comes with all the books, though. I have a friend who compared SL and MFW, and chose SL last fall because she wanted lots of options to create her day. In second grade, we studied how yeast works in science as we studied Jesus was The Bread of Life in Bible.
