Here is an update to my last post... Why does my door chime go off every time I open the driver door (and only the driver door)? This is strange, on my 2004, the accessory setting on the key switch allows my radio to play without the chime and only powers what is turned on. With the key in the ignition, even partially, engine off and door open, it dings..... a lot, and loudly. Is it possible to disable the key in ignition chime. E28 technical advice asked and given! If the temps are above 40 degrees, and/or if the truck is driven daily, I don't have an issue. Almost no one except you will notice it missing! When the temperatures are above 40 degrees, the battery stays charged - at least at an amount that's sufficient to start the vehicle. Yes I have read others with this problem and no solutions listed.
Hi JJ, I attached the system description which gives a pretty detailed account of why this chime goes off. In the meantime, do y'all have any ideas? We recently moved to a new City, into an apartment complex that doesn't allow vehicle repairs, plus I don't know much about electrical. Stops as soon as I close the driver door.
Before opening up the switch its function felt fine. If not, then it is just as possible as the ignition switch thinking the keys are in the ignition. Cleaned it all off with a grease eating enzyme cleaner, let it air dry in the sun, plugged it back in, and now everything works!! Isn't flashing either. I hope somebody knows how. Reinstalled the old ignition switch. Let me know what you find. I didn't take any pictures, because I wasn't entirely sure it was going to work, but through some messing around I found that any object pressed into the ignition with the door open will cause the chime to start, so there must be a switch inside the cylinder.
