For a lot of bands, writing and releasing new music over the last few years has been both trialling and cathartic but for Michigan metalcore outfit We Came As Romans it signifies more than just that. Singer David Stephens, guitarist Joshua Moore, bassist Andy Glass, guitarist Lou Cotton, and drummer David Puckett usher in an ambitious, courageous new era, while honoring the legacy and memory of their fallen bandmate, co-vocalist and keyboardist Kyle More. Similar bands: We Came As Romans. Plagued brings in chunky riffs and atmospheric verses and explosive choruses, while another of the album's singles Black Hole sticks to the metalcore formula of slightly slower atmospheric verses, grandiose chorus and a filthy breakdown alongside a great feature from Beartooth's Caleb Shomo. This combination of tracks and styles has had me questioning whether I have merely outgrown the genre or if the band haven't fully adapted to the times. For those unfamiliar with metal that is where you split the crowd right down the middle and on the announcers command the crowd runs at each other windmilling and dancing their hearts out.

The vocal delivery does nothing for me and I found myself waiting for the track to be over more than anything, luckily, One More Day that follows on is a better example of how to do an emotional song and brought the album back for me.
