Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber has some predictable plot points including reuniting a family divided by a dark history. Reading this book felt like I was watching a Hallmark movie. A heartwarming and powerful story about family, community, and the joy of food*. She loves to read, drink too much coffee and tea, birdwatch, crochet, and bake.
Like a piece of pecan pie, Midnight at the Blackbird Café will probably be a little too saccharine for some people's taste. I "flocking" LOVED this rich, vibrant, and charming story that touched on so many themes including love, grief, romance, forgiveness, and letting go of past hurts. The story reminded me of The Girl Who Chased the Moon including the estranged family member returning to a small southern town and the Magical Realism centered on food. Discussion Questions: 1) As this story begins, Anna Kate has put her life on hold to move to Wicklow, Alabama. How does the community of Wicklow embrace the townspeople? Have you ever heard "a voice"? "Family, fate, and magic intertwine in this endearing Southern tale of long-held secrets, homemade pie, and building one's future from the remains of the past. With the town needing to come together, old wounds will be exposed, truths will be revealed and relationships will be healed. They wanted to have a chance of seeing the blackbirds.

She has moved into the small house on her parents property with her daughter Ollie following the tragic death of her husband (yes, there are quite a few untimely deaths in this book). There are two more that seem to be written in this style, but she also writes mysteries.
