It was the mid-90s so the story on how the Humanoids were created reeked of a rejected X-Files episode, a military experiment to create amphibious super soliders using death row inmates and some kind of slamon gene. A total seahag of a movie, with its aggressively dumb premise, woeful cast (but be on the lookout for an early appearance by Walton Googins), failed updating of the story that misuses the monsters and sands the ugly edges off the proceedings to presumably make it more palatable for a 1990s cable TV audience (which is absurd since most of us likely saw the original on cable TV in the 1980s and didn't suffer PTSD) result in a movie that's far more offensive than the original ever was. As a result, there are several scenes in the film wherein characters we've never seen before are about to have sex only to have a Humanoid show up and murder the guy and tear the woman's clothes off. These added scenes are enough to make the movie one to easily dismiss but it does have plenty of entertainment elsewhere. Simple enough to remedy, he told her to go shoot a few extra shots in which the humanoids tear the clothes off young women.
Style: scary, serious, rough. I guess it was the success of the Corman-produced Piranha which led to Humanoids From The Deep being put into production, though it was initially entitled Beneath The Darkness to attract a decent cast. Johnny regularly calls on others, including Jim Hill (Doug McClure) who is sane but disagrees with Johnny, and the aforementioned Hank Slattery who is a raging racist about everything to discuss the issue, but rarely gets much traction. Story: A hybrid creature - half piranha and half anaconda -- attacks a low-budget horror movie crew on location near her nest when her egg is stolen. Corman, as in Galaxy of Terror, championed rape scenes for the exploitation aspect. The Deep Ones is lovingly cut from the most established of Lovecraftian Tropes. Without a town anyone cares about saving, it falls to that most generic of monster movie cliches to motivate our heroes – rescue the daughter/girlfriend from the clutches of the Humanoids.
