There are certainly some standard metalcore breakdowns, but thrashy riffs like the intro to 'Nothing Left' and more melodic riffs like 'The Sound of Truth' keep the tempos varying, and sound great. An Ocean Between Us is an excellent album and it will be very hard for As I Lay Dying to top this album in the future. The dual vocals from Tim Lambesis and Josh Gilbert are very nicely one on here, with the very intense screaming of the former playing off the beautiful harmony that Gilbert creates. Pluto Records took interest and offered As I Lay Dying a recording contract. The only standout song on this album is The Sound of Truth. I was very apprehensive to give this disk a listen.
