I'll go look and if I can see anyhting, I'll let you guys know. It doens't weight a lot but since it's on the very edge of the hatch/trunk it's leverage and evern the smallest weight can put force on it.. my hatch never liked opening after the winter, and wehn i took the spoiler off it would fly the fuck up. It always falls and hits me on the head. Results 1 to 25 of 29. Check for breaks, bends, or to see if they have come disconnected on either side of the bars. Trunk will not close. I have no clue as to why it just won't stay up. SHIFT_ IMissmyHonduuuh. The trunklid must have come disconnected from one of those. I dont know the difference and cant tell the difference. Most likely your hatch struts blew. Hey man I have the same problem, My bar in the back that holds the trunk open had been warped by the speakers in the back deck, they were forced back there by some dumbass and now my trunk won't stay open, I hope someone has a solution. The best solution is to go to Acura, let them look at it, and have them replace the shocks (or whatever is broken). Believe it or not the spoiler does make a BIG difference. My trunk won't stay up and play. Personally I have a 2 door so if I ever have that problem it would be an easy fix to just replace the struts there. Oh missed that:P. I looked at those bar things. As long as you have not "shot off" the bottom spring retaining can do this. I also fixed 1 hood one and lubed them. I don't understand what else could be wrong. If yours is a sedan it doesn't have shocks, only the hatch's do! I have to press the key fob again then it sucks it back down then i have to press it again to release while i lift up so it doesnt catch.
Good idea, but that'd be a pain in the ass to do. I put a luggage rack and it will not stay up. The ones that I bought at the dealership new about 1/2 year ago are gray though. Sponsored by: I have an OEM spoiler. If you get in the trunk looking up at the rear speaker magnets you will see some bars crossing from side to side, those are the springs that hold it up. I did a rebuild thread on these.... Trunks you need to be stopped. Actually, now that I think about it, that coat-hanger served multiple purposes today... Yeah, either that, or it would be cool to throw some linear actuators and a trunk pop on there and have it open by itself. Then they would collapse under the weight of the trunk. Those two beams move as you raise and lower the trunk, they are basically torsion beams.
The problem has to be in one or both of those bars. My trunk never stays up. Ohh how I longed for a coupe.
You guys have any clue as to what needs to be adjusted or changed to make it work properly? If you pull back the carpeting, you can see a little plastic thingy attatched to the top of the inside of the trunk side, and the bunjee clipped in there nicely. Too bad i already bought struts! Easy to replace, but you might be able to fix them for a while by just lubricating them.
Can't be to hard of a fix. Please register, spot, and help the project. Now it pops open nicely. Curious about this too.

He used struts rated 10lbs higher than they recommended, so it kinda lifts itself about halfway up before you have to do anything.
Thats what it sounds like to me. This is really annoying now. There's no hatch struts. In the mean-time, I'm going to attach a spring to the post that sticks out of the "arm" and to somewhere else so that it will hold the trunk open, but will stretch when the trunk closes, but I'd like to know a permanent solution to the problem. Trunk won't stay open. And if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you no longer a racing driver because we are competing, we are competing to win, and the main motivation to all of us is to compete for victory, its not to come 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th, I race to Win, as long as I feel its possible Ayrton Senna. I'd be curious to know how. Most of the bumper stops are BLACK! Moved the pics... Relinked. With mine I can open it on the first try if I'm holding onto the trunk and lift exactly when it releases. As all of the oil had drained through the seals the shock lacked lubrication and made it really difficult to lift.
As the trunklid raises, these bars rotate and put some tension on the trunklid, keeping it raised. 2006 Nissan Maxima SE 6-Speed. I don't know how the 4 door setup is, but my hatch had the same problem. There are two of them crossing over each other. These also just twist to get them out. How do you replace the trunk lid lift cylinder? The pressure from the oil inside the hatch shock caused the frozen/weakened seals to crack and leak oil out.
These get dirty, break, and just don't spring back up after a while if you don't keep them clean & lubricated. That's my problem i guess if there aren't any. If I open the trunk then it will stay open, thats not the problem. I dont see any springs? You did check the springs- or does it use pneumatics like the hatchbacks... No pneumatics. As I was installing the stereo in the sedan today, The trunk lid kept falling on my head until I rigged up a latch using a coat-hanger. Thats what i'm doing till i find someone that sells lift supports that aren't the StrongArm brand cuz those don't fit. Then, stop helping... Originally Posted by SilverStreak.
