MFW since 2008; CTG this coming school yr. ME TOO! This puts undue pressure on the parent, and take away some of the flexibility that I have loved about MFW in the past. We use Math-U-See because I prefer the Mastery Approach as opposed to the Spiral Approach in Singapore. They also include more hands-on activities, student worksheets/notebook pages, music, art, more Charlotte Mason type stuff. I have rowed a week here and there during the summer and once for Thanksgiving. I got a great deal and was later able to sell it at exactly the same price. My oldest liked the way the high school program looked, and easily chose his program. MFW has been doable for us. I have been intending to come to this thread... We have used P3/4, P4/5, and K (or now A), and own 1 (now B) of SL. They also phone their customers during the year just to check on you and make sure you're doing okay, or to pray with you on the phone. It's a literature based program, and there's a TON of reading, and it's heavy stuff. I've used everything from Masterbooks curriculum to Abeka. To give appropriate work for different ages on the same subject gave me a headache! Sonlight cores can be combined too, since they cover a range of ages, but they don't have that big age spread able to work together. Enough people must have complained. Nature walks & nature journals are encouraged. One worksheet per day in K. * CM idea of short lessons. I love the family cycle.
