Circular restrictors, for the most part, use the same spacing as in 8-way (an exception is the Super with a flipped actuator). This is only beneficial to a select few characters, however and this input is usually used as a transition for Special Attacks. Sometimes I mess up my inputs and I think the gate is part of the reason.
Forgive my terrible photoshop skills, but here's what I mean: The gates should be shaped like the red line. Sanwa sticks are more precise, and the gates in them are easily swapped, but they're really only practical for metal panels. It's the straight back or forward without jumping that you need to be careful with. I use square, as do most people. This plastic restrictor gate is very simple to install. If you have a 4/8 way joystick, and want a nicer 8-way restrictor plate, use this... in with original four screws. They're only like $3 and you can easily change back if you don't like it. This will likely increase the time it takes for your changes to go live. Not much more though. Open your arcade stick, there are many different types, most unscrew from the top or the bottom.

Octo with 2lb spring… used Square for long time, but I just prefer Octo now. Screw on the new gate. Octagonal isn't bad and could be argued it gives more accuracy, but I prefer feeling the four corners instead of eight slots. Nintendo controller analog sticks!
